The Evolution of Team Work: From Factories to Cafes and Virtual Spaces

If you look at the last 80 years of the world’s work culture, there was a recurring trend of significant change in the workplace every few decades. It started with the industrial revolution; the use of coal, which got replaced by gas, which in turn got replaced by electricity and then got revolutionised by the Internet and renewable energy.

All of these had a significant impact on the work culture of the respective workforce of the time. The industrial revolution changed traditional farming and agriculture to let people work in factories while coal and gas helped mechanise a lot of their equipment and then the electricity further enhanced the ease and productivity of the industries which then got replaced by automation and robotics. It all happened in the last 200 years.

This trend of workforce revolution is now at a stage where it’s getting ready for another revolution. The revolution of workplace flexibility.
