Top 7 Reasons Why Hybrid Working Is the Future

If you thought office cubicles and desk-bound meetings were the best way to get the job done, think again! An increasing number of people are working from home, at least flexibly, and this trend doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. In fact, many people who work remotely say that they get more done in fewer hours than they did when they were stuck in the office. This raises the question: why do so many people work from home? We’ve come up with 7 of the top reasons why hybrid remote working is the future of the workplace.

Remote Working Enables You To...

1) Work Smarter

Say goodbye to hours wasted procrastinating by the water-cooler!  According to a 2-year study by Stanford University, employees working remotely or hybridly are more productive than in-office workers. Over a 9 month period, those who worked from home were 13% more productive than their in-office counterparts.

2) Retain Talent

Stanford University also found that remote workers were more loyal to their company. Remote workers were 50% less likely to leave their roles than their in-office colleagues of the same company. This is unsurprising considering that 81% of workers declare that their company loyalty would increase if they were able to work remotely or hybridly. Given that many companies now struggle with talent retention, providing flexible working options will have to become the norm in order for companies to have a chance against their competition.

3) Improve Diversity in the Workplace

According to recent reports, companies with diverse workforces are shown to outperform their peers in market capitalization by 53%. When you hire people with different perspectives and viewpoints, you gain access to broader problem-solving capabilities that can help identify innovative solutions to everyday problems. However, it can sometimes be difficult to diversify teams when you can only hire from a selected area. Hybrid working and distributed working teams allows you to find new talent regardless of borders while enabling companies to meet workforce diversity goals.

4) Save $$$

When employees are working from home, companies can save thousands on office space costs. It’s no secret that commercial rent is high in big cities. By enabling employees to work remotely just 50% of the week, employers could save $11 000 per member of staff.

However, companies are not the only ones that can save money by working remotely. According to TECLA, remote workers save approximately $7 000 per annum. These savings are an accumulation of avoided travel costs, meals out, child care and more.

5) Work Stronger

We have all needed to take a sick day at least once. Having to commute into the office and sit in a crowded office is not easy on most days, let alone when you are not feeling very well. However, sometimes when faced with the sniffles or another small ailment, you do not want to be that guy in the office to spread germs. Luckily, remote working allows you to work from the comfort of your own home when you are feeling under the weather. It allows workers to work however much they are capable given the circumstances, rather than sacking off a whole day's work because of bad hay-fever.

6) Boost Employee Wellness

Employees who work remotely tend to have more time throughout the day to focus on their well-being; they become healthier and more efficient. If you provide employees with tools to make it easier for them to work remotely, they’ll be happier—and thus more productive—in their jobs. According to research by FlexJobs, 80% of workers with confirmed mental conditions, like anxiety or depression, believe that flexible or remote working options would allow them to manage their mental health better.

7) Work From Anywhere

Gone are the days when remote working was reserved for digital nomads. The workforce is changing, and more companies are allowing their employees to work from anywhere. This can be attributed to Millennials and Gen Z becoming  larger portions of today’s workforce; they don’t want to go through hours of traffic every day to get to an office in another town when they can work at home or in co-working spaces around town. Plus, these days, technology like Wurkr's virtual workspaces, make it easier than ever for professionals to work remotely. No wonder Upwork's 2020 Future Workforce Pulse Report predicts that 36.2 million Americans will be full-time remote workers by 2025.
